TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) -- Shots have been fired for the third time in two weeks outside a British diplomatic compound in Tehran.
Sunday's incident occurred opposite the main gate of the residential compound of the British Embassy at around 6 p.m (1340), according to embassy spokesman Andrew Greenstock. No one was hurt.
Tension has been rising between the countries since the arrest of a former Iranian diplomat in Britain over the 1994 bombing of a Jewish center in Argentina that killed 85.
The embassy has been closed twice this month following similar incidents, the most recent on September 9.
Britain has "protested strongly" at what it says is Iran's failure to protect the British embassy in Tehran after shots were fired at the mission for the second time in a week.

Iran says his detention is politically motivated. It has promised "strong action" and warned Britain that the issue would harm bilateral ties.
