JERUSALEM (CNN) -- An Israeli adult and a baby were killed and two others wounded Friday when a Palestinian gunman barged into a Jewish settlement in the West Bank and opened fire, Israeli medics said.
The gunman was shot and killed by Israeli troops and settlers, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported. There has been no claim of responsibility.
The incident took place as Jews began ushering in Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, which begins at sundown Friday and ends at sunset Sunday.
The settlement, Neguot, is south of Hebron.
Police are conducting searches for others who might have been involved in the attack. The Israeli adult killed was 30, police said
The Israeli Army announced Thursday that it would close the West Bank and Gaza during the holiday.
The announcement came after one Israeli soldier and four Palestinian militants were killed earlier Thursday in separate incidents during Israeli incursions into the West Bank and Gaza, according to Israeli and Palestinian sources.
