Geronimo on record-breaking streak
USHANT, France (CNN) -- Giant trimaran Geronimo has set another record in its bid to be the fastest boat around the world. Geronimo, skippered by Olivier de Kersauson, set a new record to the antimeridian – the point where 180 degrees east meets 180 degrees west. Its record time of 32 days, 3 hours, 13 minutes and 47 seconds puts it two days, 6 hours and 7 minutes ahead of the previous record set by Bruno Peyron in Orange in 2002. Peyron sent a message of congratulations to De Kersauson, saying he had been tracking Geronimo's progress, the yacht's web site said. Geronimo is hoping to break Orange's record for the Jules Verne Trophy by circumnavigating the world in under 64 days, 8 hours, 37 minutes and 24 seconds. Meanwhile, Geronimo's rival Kingfisher2, skippered by Briton Ellen MacArthur, continued to struggle toward the Southern Ocean. Light winds have at times brought the catamaran to almost a standstill. It was 31 hours and 26 minutes behind Orange's record and 77 hours and 34 minutes behind Geronimo on Thursday morning. De Kersauson had already set three records on the journey. He sailed from Ushant to the Equator in 6 days, 11 hours and 26 minutes -- 1 day, 10 hours and 34 minutes ahead of Peyron. Then he soared from Ushant to the Cape of Good Hope in 16 days, 14 hours and 35 minutes -- 2 days, 4 hours and 5 minutes ahead of Orange. Its run from Ushant to Australia's southwestern Cape Leeuwin in 26 days, 4 hours and 53 minutes slashed over three days off the time set by Peyron.
