From Judy Woodruff, CNN "Inside Politics" anchor:

(CNN) -- Joe Lieberman is defiant. We caught up with the senator Monday morning in Nashua, New Hampshire. Standing in front of the town hall, with temperatures in the teens, he spoke of rising expectations for Tuesday's presidential primary.

"I'm optimistic," he said, and he urged me and other reporters to "take another look at the polls."

With his pollster standing nearby, a smiling Lieberman said, "I love you, but thank God it's the voters who decide, and not you people in the media."

The pollster, Mark Penn, pulled me aside afterward and asked why the press isn't focusing on the fact that Lieberman is competitive in the race for third place in the Granite State.

In fact, Penn is right: Most polls -- and there have been nine of them in this state in the past few days -- are indeed showing Wesley Clark, John Edwards and Lieberman all within the statistical margin of error. If Lieberman does what he says is possible and finishes third in New Hampshire, more than a few reporters and pundits will have egg on their face.

Scrambled or over easy?

It was mighty, mighty cold when the bus arrived in Hanover at 6 a.m. ET  today. The temperature was 13 degrees below zero,  and that's not the wind chill but the honest-to-God temperature.

Dartmouth put us in this building, and given my SAT scores it was the only way I'd ever get to an Ivy League school.

They are seeing to it that all our needs are being taken care of -- lattes, chichi food ...

Kidding aside, Dartmouth is a great place to discuss such a fascinating election because what I constantly find is that students are the most seriously and intelligently engaged voters, and that's no exception here.

We're all looking with a certain amount of dread at tomorrow's election, not because it's not exciting but because cold weather is heading in with a heavy snow.

Crew call: 4:15 a.m. Temperature: Minus 17 degrees. It's been a pretty standard day today, besides the bitter cold. Thankfully, there's no wind, if there were, we'd be in trouble. To stay warm, I'm wearing everything I own. I look like the Michelin Man.

But it's actually quite a beautiful day. There's lots of sunshine. I think it's supposed to start snowing here this evening or tomorrow, with accumulation possibly up to a foot. So, we're anxiously awaiting that.

At the moment, we're in Hanover, New Hampshire, home to Dartmouth University. We've done a couple of live shots already. Later on today, we'll be broadcasting "Crossfire" from the school.

Today's TV lingo: "Cut in." These are short newscasts shown at the top of the hour before a show returns to regular programming.
