(CNN) -- Most Asian markets are slightly higher at midday Tuesday as investors welcome Wall Street's resilience in the face of a terror alert, but Tokyo is in the red.

Hong Kong is posting the region's biggest gain, with the Hang Seng up about 1.5 percent. South Korea's Kospi is about 0.8 percent ahead.

The dollar is lower against the Japanese yen at around 110.67.

The Nikkei 225 stock average has finished the morning session down 0.66 percent to 11,148.26. On Monday, the index fell 103.54 points, or 0.91 percent.

The broader Topix index of all first section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange is down 0.75 percent to 1127.12. The Topix fell 0.32 percent the day before.

There are slight gains for Australia and New Zealand, while in Singapore the Straits Times index is up about 0.7 percent.

Taiwan's Taiex is up just 0.1 percent to 5355.64.

Prices on Tokyo's main index initially rose Tuesday as investors were relieved by Wall Street's strength in the face of the terror warning.

But sentiment changed as the day wore on, with falls for big exporters such as Sony, down 1.8 percent to 3820 yen, and Hitachi, down 1.6 percent to 671 yen.

In the automotive sector, Toyota is down 1.35 percent and Nissan is about 1.2 percent in the red. Mitsubishi Motors is continuing to tumble, down almost 9 percent to a fresh record low of 82 yen.

Big banks are mixed, with slight gains for UFJ and Mizuho, but a fall of 2.7 percent for SMFG and half a percent for MTFG.

In Seoul, the Kospi is 0.82 percent ahead to 725.45. There are gains of 2 percent-plus for SK Telecom and Hyundai Motor.

In Australia, the S&P/ASX200 is up 0.31 percent to 3556.1. Market heavyweight News Corp is 1 percent ahead to A$12.23.

The United States on Sunday issued a new warning of possible terrorist attacks against "iconic" financial institutions in New York City, Washington and Newark, New Jersey.

Wall Street on Monday shrugged off concerns over a potential terror strike and sent stocks higher following an upbeat earnings report from Procter & Gamble Co. and a positive reading on manufacturing activity.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 39.45 or 0.4 percent to close at 10,179.16. The Nasdaq composite index gained 4.73 or 0.3 percent at 1,892.09. (Full story)

The dollar is at 110.64 yen Tuesday afternoon in Tokyo, down 0.32 yen from late Monday and just below the 110.67 yen it bought in New York later that day.
