To me, vacation means just that -- vacation. I'm lucky in that my job is structured in a way that my team members and I cover for each other. None of us has ever checked in with the office while on vacation, nor is there any reason to do so. Jersey shore, here I come!

Another step towards socialism... How is it fair that one employee is entitled to work only four days a week and another employee must work five days for the same pay? It is nothing but deceptive to think the flex hour person is putting in the same amount of time as their coworkers and who will have to do the extra work? Single coworkers... what an outrage! Talk about making discriminatory employment decisions based on marital status. Just pay everyone the same no matter how much they work. Homework? What a joke.

As a mother of a two-year-old, I feel a home office is much better than home work. I'd rather spend a few hours at home working between the hours of 9-5 than bringing extra work home after five, which cuts into my family time.
The key is to keep your work life separated from your personal life. When you are at home working, shut your office door to block out extra noise so you can concentrate. I find myself to be more efficient at home -- no phone calls or people popping in interrupting my day.

There are two points to note on the subject of the return to work and the pursuit of a career after starting a family. The problem can be tackled together with a husband/partner as part of the "union". Remember as time passes, the child grows and things get a little easier so more effort can be put into the career and years pass and the pension rights grow as well as the children!
