MELBOURNE, Australia -- American seed Chanda Rubin has crashed out of the Australian Open, falling in a three-set battle Monday to Russian sixth seed Anastasia Myskina.

The Russian came from a set down to win 6-7 (3-7) 6-2 6-2.

She now goes through to her fourth quarter-final stage of a Grand Slam event.

Rubin, seeded ninth, looked set to take the match after a compelling first-set performance but then lost her way.

Second seed Kim Clijsters of Belgium beat 20th seed, Italian Silvia Farina Elia, 6-3 6-3, on day eight of the tournament, Reuters reports.

In the first women's match of the day, American Lisa Raymond followed her upset win over Venus Williams with an easy victory, defeating French wild-card entry Tatiana Golovin 6-2, 6-0 to reach the quarter-finals.

Raymond had 20 winners and won the last 11 points, Reuters reports.

She made the most of Golovin's 22 unforced errors, including a double-fault on break point in the first game of the second set.

Raymond, seeded 25, closed with a forehand winner in 42 minutes and equaled her best performance in 44 previous Grand Slam tournaments.

She reached the quarters at Wimbledon in 2000.

"I haven't really played my best tennis in the Grand Slams. For me to be able to play this kind of tennis here in Australia is great," said Raymond, a former top-ranked doubles player who has three Grand Slam women's doubles titles."

Raymond will play either 22nd seed Patty Schnyder of Switzerland or 29th seed Nathalie Dechy of France in the quarter-finals.

In the women's matches in the previous evening session, top-ranked Justine Henin-Hardenne advanced with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Italian qualifier Mara Santangelo. She moves into the quarterfinals against 2000 champion Lindsay Davenport, who notched a 6-1, 6-3 victory over No. 11 Vera Zvonareva.

Amelie Mauresmo beat Australia's Alicia Molik 7-5, 7-5, ensuring she'll rise to a career-high No. 3 in the WTA Tour rankings.

Defending men's champion Andre Agassi extended his winning stretch at the Australian Open to 25 matches with a straight-sets victory over Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan.

Top-ranked Andy Roddick slammed 14 aces in a 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 16 Sjeng Schalken of the Netherlands.

Lleyton Hewitt, a two-time major winner, faces Wimbledon champion Roger Federer, while No. 10 Mark Philippoussis plays Hicham Arazi.
