Eight bids for 2009 championships
LONDON, England -- Eight cities are bidding for the 2009 athletics world championships, the International Association of Athletics Federations has announced.
The candidates are: Berlin, Germany; Brisbane, Australia; Brussels, Belgium; Casablanca, Morocco; Taegu, South Korea; Delhi, India; Split, Croatia; and Valencia, Spain.
"I am delighted not only to have such a long list of impressive candidates but that they are so widely spread geographically," IAAF President Lamine Diack said.
The winner will be decided at the IAAF council's autumn meeting later this year.
The 2005 championships will be hosted by Helsinki, Finland, with Osaka, Japan, hosting in 2007.
