Jordan give Glock chance to shine

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Germany's Timo Glock will drive Jordan's third car in Friday practice at grands prix this season, the Formula One team said on Thursday.

The six lowest ranked teams, including Jordan, can run three cars on Fridays under new rules designed to bring on young talent in a race environment and restrict expensive testing.

Glock, 21, won three races in the inaugural European Formula Three series last year, the same junior championship that produced rookie Jaguar driver Christian Klien.

"Timo Glock is one of the most promising young driving talents in Germany," said Eddie Jordan, who gave Ferrari's world champion Michael Schumacher and his brother Ralf their grand prix debuts.

"I'm delighted that we are able to offer him a regular F1 testing role," added Jordan, who has Germany's Nick Heidfeld and Italian Giorgio Pantano as race drivers.

"He's come up through the junior categories quickly and this will give him an invaluable opportunity to learn every grand prix circuit on the calendar.

"It's a perfect training ground and will also help the team in terms of having another car's data to assist with our preparation for each race.

"Timo has really impressed our engineers with his testing feedback and we are now hoping to guide him through this next stage of his career with the ultimate aim for him to become a grand prix driver of the future."

The season starts with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 7.
