Deposed Sanders says he will quit
PRETORIA, South Africa -- South African ex-world heavyweight champion, Corrie Sanders, has announced his retirement from the sport, South African media reported on Thursday.
The 38-year-old, who lost a WBC heavyweight title bout last weekend against Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko, is quoted as saying defeat spelled the end of his career.
"I am happy to end my career and it is a good feeling to say that the boxing career is finished," he said.
"The WBC said that they would rank me second after the fight against Klitschko, but even if somebody offers me a million dollars, I would turn them down. It is not only a question of money, it is also a question of health."
Sanders can look back on a 15-year career during which time he had 43 bouts, winning 39 -- 29 by knock out.
He sensationally won the WBO title in March last year, when he knocked out Vitali's younger brother Wladimir Klitschko.
