LONDON, England -- British heavyweight Danny Williams faces Oleg Maskaev on October 9 in London in his first fight since last month's knockout of ex-world champion Mike Tyson.
Williams and Uzbekistan's 35-year-old Maskaev -- he has a 29-5 winning record -- will meet for the vacant World Boxing Union (WBU) title.
"I wanted to make sure Danny was kept busy and offered him this fight in October," said promoter Frank Warren.
"After this, we will keep going wherever the money is because when Danny fought Mike I told him it was his ticket to the big American fights.
"I've had talks with Showtime (the American boxing promotion company) about doing a show involving Danny in December,"
Warren added he had not ruled a re-match between Williams and Tyson. "Danny has got Mike's number," he said.
The New York-based Maskaev has beaten Britain's Julius Francis and Hasim Rahman, the American who dethroned Lennox Lewis, in his 11-year professional career
