LONDON, England -- India's Sachin Tendulkar will miss the ICC Champions Trophy because of an elbow injury, Indian cricket officials have confirmed.
The batsman has missed India's recent series in the Netherlands and their current series with England with "tennis elbow" and will be replaced by Ronan Gavaskar.
"The team management informed the board today that Tendulkar will not be available for the Champions Trophy," Board of Control for Cricket in India joint secretary Ratnakar Shetty said.
"They asked for a replacement and after talking to the selectors we have decided to take Rohan Gavaskar."
Gavaskar is the son of Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar.
Had Tendulkar aggravated the injury by playing in the 12-team one-day tournament he would have been doubtful for India's four-test series with Australia in November.
