Schumacher vows to chase Monza win

HAMBURG, Germany -- Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher vowed on Monday last week's high-speed crash would not stop him going all-out for victory in the Italian grand prix.

In comments posted on his website, Schumacher said he is fully-motivated for the Monza race at the weekend and reiterated that he is not thinking of retiring.

"I got off lightly, considering what happened," said Schumacher, referring to his crash when a tyre burst at 340 kph during practice in Monza four days earlier.

"The important thing is to analyze the cause of the burst tyre. Otherwise I don't have any real injuries, and so this isn't making me brood," Ferrari's F1 star added.

Schumacher said he can't promise a victory in Monza, "but naturally we are hoping to continue this wonderful season so far and add one more (victory)."

He noted that other racing teams had shown good results in Monza and were "closing in" on Ferrari.

"I cannot promise a victory - after all, this is a sport. But as always I can promise that each and every one of us will give it his all so that there can be a great party," Schumacher said about the grand prix on September 12.
