DUBLIN, Ireland -- Winger Breyton Paulse will win his 50th cap for South Africa as they continue their quest for a grand slam against Ireland in Dublin on Saturday.
Flanker-cum-lock AJ Venter returns at number seven, replacing Juan Smith who has been dropped from the first 22 in the only change for the Springbok team that beat Wales last weekend..
Coach Jake White is still sweating on the fitness of fly-half Jaco van der Westhuyzen.
He said on Tuesday that he would wait until the last minute if necessary before handing the number 10 to anyone else.
The Springbok bench shows two changes to the replacements for the game at the Millennium Stadium.
The more versatile Danie Roussouw comes in for Tim Dlulane, and White gave few clues to who might replace van der Westhuyzen by dropping Brent Russell but keeping his options open by deciding to bring in either Gaffie du Toit or Jaque Fourie.
Du Toit and Russell were two of the most likely candidates for the number 10 shirt along with Percy Montgomery. And while more of a centre-cum wing, Fourie starred in the Lions 2002 Currie Cup campaign scoring 15 tries in 19 games from full-back.
If Montgomery were to move to fly-half then Fourie would likely come in at 15. However, the more experienced du Toit is a more accomplished fly-half, though also more familiar with the full-back position.
Irish debut
Forward Jonny O'Connor will make his international for Ireland as they bid to beat South Africa for the first time since 1965.
Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan called up O'Connor on Tuesday after his strong showing for club London Wasps.
O'Connor is one of three changes to the Ireland team that lost to South Africa 26-17 in Cape Town on June 19.
"We all know the sort of game Jonny plays," O'Sullivan said. "He's on top form at the moment and it's a great opportunity for him."
O'Connor was picked ahead of Eric Miller and will play in the back row alongside Simon Easterby and Anthony Foley.
Shane Horgan moves into center to replace Gordon D'Arcy, who has a groin injury.
"Shane has operated at center with Brian (O'Driscoll) quite a bit for (club team) Leinster," O'Sullivan said. "He's played most of his rugby for Ireland on the wing but I think he has the qualities of an inside center."
In other changes, Geordan Murphy returns after missing the Cape Town test due to illness. Denis Hickie returns to the Irish squad for the first time in almost a year since suffering an Achilles injury at the World Cup.
British Lions star Brian O'Driscoll continues as Ireland captain.
