Rivaldo returns home to Cruzeiro
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- World Cup winner Rivaldo has signed for Brazilian champions Cruzeiro, the Belo Horizonte club announced on their Web site.
The 31-year-old forward has agreed a one-year contract that finally ends his disappointing spell with European champions AC Milan, where he has spent most of the last 18 months on the sidelines.
In a seven-year career in Europe, the former FIFA World Player of the Year also played for Spanish sides Barcelona and Deportivo Coruna.
Cruzeiro said a local pharmaceutical company had sponsored the deal, brokered over the weekend by Cruzeiro coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo, club president Alvimar Perrerla and Rivaldo's agent Carlos Arini.
Rivaldo, a key player in Brazil's victorious 2002 World Cup campaign, has retained his place in the national side despite his recent lack of appearances at Milan.
He will join his new team for training on Wednesday.
