MILAN, Italy (Reuters) -- European champions AC Milan moved five points clear at the top of Serie A with a 2-0 win at Bologna.
Andriy Shevchenko's 16th goal of the season and a late strike from substitute Jon Dahl Tomasson secured Milan's sixth straight league win.
A 10th-minute goal from Mauro Camoranesi gave champions Juventus a 1-0 win over Chievo, sending Marcello Lippi's side level with Roma in second place on 43 points.
Roma, who suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat at Brescia on Saturday, host Juventus in the capital next week.
Inter Milan ended a run of three games without a win, beating Siena 4-0 thanks to two goals apiece from Uruguayan Alvaro Recoba and Brazilian Adriano.
Lazio and Parma, who share fourth place, fell further off the pace with Lazio held 1-1 at home to Sampdoria and Parma drawing 2-2 at Perugia.
Milan's victory piles the pressure on Roma and Juve ahead of their clash at the Olympic stadium and confirms the rich form of Carlo Ancelotti's side.
Serie A's top scorer Shevchenko provided the decisive breakthrough in the 19th minute with a firm header after he had been picked out by Andrea Pirlo.
Brazilian Kaka went close to a second after the break, firing wide from 20 meters out after a dazzling run from midfield.
Confident lob
It was Danish substitute Tomasson who finally settled the game with a confident lob after he had chested down a through ball from Serginho.
Tomasson, given more opportunities in the absence of the injured Filippo Inzaghi, has scored in each of Milan's last four league and cup games.
Coach Ancelotti was quick to play down talk of the five-point gap being a turning point in the season.
"The team is enjoying an excellent spell, as the results show, but I don't want to hear about us 'breaking away'," he told Italy's Sky Sport.
"It was a balanced game and we suffered a little and found it hard work, at times, to move the ball around.
"But that is understandable when you are playing a good side like Bologna who are in good form," he added.
Juve's defense was under scrutiny after last week's 3-3 draw at Empoli but the Turin side looked back to their solid, if unspectacular, selves at the Delle Alpi.
In a game of few chances at either end, Argentine-born Italy international Camoranesi grabbed the winner, firing home at the back post after David Trezeguet had headed down a high ball into the box from Stephen Appiah.
"The important thing, especially at this stage of the season, was the three points," said Lippi.
'Important day'
"Both teams were punished by the pitch, which was a bit sandy, but the lads gave the impression they knew this was a very important day for us," added the Juve coach.
Inter Milan's new president Giacinto Facchetti could not have asked for a better start to his reign in charge, the 4-0 win over Siena allowing Inter to move into fourth place, albeit still 13 points behind their city rivals.
Serbian Dejan Stankovic made his debut for Inter following his deadline day move from Lazio on Saturday but, while the midfielder took his time to settle in, Recoba and Adriano, another recent signing from Parma, gave Facchetti and the long suffering Inter fans some cheer.
After hitting the bar in the 10th minute, Recoba fired Inter in front in the 22nd minute with a rocketing strike from over 20 meters out.
Adriano doubled the lead four minutes after the restart with a cool finish after his compatriot, Siena defender Roque Junior, had slipped and let the Inter striker through on goal.
Recoba made it 3-0 with a penalty after Roque Junior, making his Siena debut after joining them from Leeds United, had upended Adriano inside the area.
Adriano completed a comfortable win in the 79th minute with a side-foot finish after good work from Inter captain Javier Zanetti.
Lazio, smarting from the loss of Stankovic, all but waved goodbye to any lingering title hopes with their draw at home to the increasingly impressive Sampdoria.
Stefano Fiore put Lazio ahead in the 10th minute, reacting swiftly to fire home after Roberto Muzzi's shot flew out off the post.
Sampdoria's equalizer came from a close-range effort from Italy international Fabio Bazzani.
