Paris (France)

PARIS, France -- Herve Tum struck twice as unfashionable Metz went top of the French league with a stunning 3-1 away victory at Marseille.

Metz, who spent no money during the close season, are still unbeaten with 10 points from four games.

Cameroon's Tum, 25, opened the scoring in the 13th minute then added his second one minute into injury time after Stephane Borbiconi had answered a Peguy Luynidula equaliser.

Marseille, who lost striker Didier Drogba to Chelsea for 37 million euros, are eighth with seven points.

Auxerre moved up to second with nine points as midfielder Lionel Mathis scored his side's only goal in their 1-0 victory over promoted Caen in the last minute.

Lens conceded their first goal of the season when they drew 1-1 at home with last season's Champions League finalists Monaco.

The principality team went in front in the eighth minute courtesy of former Inter Milan forward Mohamed Kallon but defender Nicolas Gillet answered with a powerful free kick three minutes before the interval.

Lens are third with eight points on goal difference ahead of surprise package Toulouse, who snatched a 2-2 draw at Nantes.

Champions Lyon are also on eight points after Pierre-Alain Frau scored in the ninth minute to lead them to a 1-0 defeat of Lille.

Earlier, goals by Cyril Rool and Lilian Laslandes earned Bordeaux a deserved 2-0 victory over Sochaux.

The Aquitaine side are seventh with seven points, one behind Bastia, who grabbed a point at Nice on Friday with a 1-1 draw.

Switzerland's Alexander Frei scored his fourth goal of the season, taking him to the top of the leading goalscorers list, as Rennes drew 1-1 at Ajaccio.

On Sunday, Paris St-Germain badly need a victory when they host bottom of the table St Etienne. Both teams only have one point from three matches.
