Spain struggle to a draw in Bosnia
ZENICA, Bosnia -- Spain were fortunate to take a point from their opening World Cup qualifier when they scraped a barely deserved 1-1 draw with Bosnia in a Group Seven match in Zenica.
Midfielder Vicente put Spain ahead against the run of play after 66 minutes but Elvir Bolic equalized eight minutes later as he cashed in on a defensive error.
Bosnia had by far the better of the game but Spain were saved by sharp goalkeeping from Iker Casillas and some desperate last-ditch defending.
Galatasaray midfielder Elvir Baljic had two great chances to put Bosnia in front in the first half but he fired a close-range volley over the bar in the first minute and was then denied by a fine block from Casillas just before the break.
Porto striker Edgaras Jankauskas netted twice as Lithuania cruised to a 4-0 home win over San Marino in Kaunas.
Jankauskas opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a close-range finish and the same player added a second goal five minutes after the restart when he converted a cross from Nerijus Barasa.
Tomas Danilevicius and Andrius Gedgaudas scored the other goals.
Unmarked Danilevicius tapped in the third after 60 minutes and substitute Gedgaudas struck a minute into injury time.
Lithuania, who held Belgium to a 1-1 draw away from home on Saturday, have four points from two games and next face group favorites Spain on October 13.
