LONDON, England -- Senegal international midfielder Khalilou Fadiga has been signed by Bolton, the Premiership club said on Tuesday.
The arrival of the 29-year-old gives Bolton manager Sam Allardyce the African for a season with an option to extend the deal.
The move will come as a relief to Fadiga who earlier this year feared he would have to quit the game after being diagnosed with heart problems that required surgery.
It led to the 29-year-old being released by Serie A giants Inter Milan a year after a transfer from Auxerre where he had previously spent three seasons.
Fadiga, who has been training with Bolton for the last two weeks, has since passed all medical checks with the club, and he should be fully fit and available for selection by the middle of next month.
"It will be good to have him on the front line when he gets fit which should be in about four to six weeks," confirmed Allardyce.
Fadiga represents Allardyce's fourth African capture over the past two months, joining Senegal team-mate El-Hadji Diouf, Nigerian Blessing Kaku and Tunisian Radhi Jaidi, all of whom followed in the footsteps of Nigerian fans' favorite Jay-Jay Okocha.
