Romania call-up for injured Chivu
BUCHAREST, Romania -- Romania have called up the injured Cristian Chivu for next month's World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic.
Roma defender Chivu has a toe injury, which doctors said would sideline him for all this year's World Cup qualifiers.
However, Romania coach Anghel Iordanescu said his captain had recovered quicker than expected.
"Chivu will join the squad and he might play if he is fully fit," said Iordanescu.
Midfielder Paul Codrea of Torino returns to the squad for the first time in two years. The squad will be completed with domestic players after this weekend's first division matches.
Romania, who lead the qualifying standings with a maximum nine points from three matches, will face the Czech Republic in Prague on October 9.
