Defoe urges coach Jol to sign Cole
| Cole, right, will be on his way to Tottenham if Defoe has his way |

LONDON, England -- Jermain Defoe has urged Tottenham to snap up his old West Ham team-mate Joe Cole who is out of favor with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
Spurs have already captured three of the West Ham team that were relegated from the Premiership in Defoe, Fredi Kanoute and Michael Carrick.
And England striker Defoe reckons manager Martin Jol should add a fourth by plumping for the versatile Cole, his international colleague.
"Joe would fit in well down here. He can play on the left, on the right or behind the front two," Defoe, 22, said.
"He is such a good player and, hopefully, he will come to Tottenham."
Cole, 23, left West Ham for Chelsea in a 6.6 million pound move in August last year but he could go for less.
He has not started a Premiership match since being hauled off at half-time in the 4-1 win over West Brom in October when he was replaced by Arjen Robben.
And Cole has conceded he needs to quit Stamford Bridge to further his England ambitions.
Jol, who is also tracking Fulham's Belgian playmaker Steed Malbranque, hopes to bring in a striker and an attacking midfielder in the January transfer window.
Spurs are already set to sign Iceland Under-21 international Emil Hallfredsson from FH Hafnarfjordur for 500,000 pounds.
