NEWCASTLE, England -- Newcastle striker Patrick Kluivert will miss Wednesday's Premier League match at home to champions Arsenal.
The Dutch international suffered further damage to a hamstring injury during Sunday's 2-2 draw away to Blackburn and his absence adds to manager Graeme Souness's problems.
Shola Ameobi is struggling to overcome a shoulder problem while captain Alan Shearer, although back in training, is still not match fit after a thigh strain.
Lee Bowyer is available after serving a one-match ban and fellow midfielder Kieron Dyer is expected to recover from the knee injury he suffered at Ewood Park.
But Stephen Carr (knee), Nicky Butt, Ronny Johnsen and Darren Ambrose (all hamstring) are all still out.
Arsenal will have Ashley Cole back from suspension after the England full-back missed Sunday's victory against Fulham.
Arsene Wenger could include fit again Brazil midfielder Edu. Jermain Pennant and Philippe Senderos will also travel while Manuel Almunia is set to keep his place in goal.
Before Tuesday's matches Arsenal were second, five points behind leaders Chelsea, while Newcastle were 14th in the table
