(CNN) -- I'm not a huge fan of technology and I sometimes wonder whether it has had such a big impact on our lives. But one thing that has changed the way that I do business is the mobile phone.

It's not very exciting, perhaps, but it has given me the opportunity to make sure that I'm not stuck behind a desk anymore and can get out and see the world and meet people instead.

With a mobile phone I can be away from the office, even away on holiday, and still be in touch with everything that is happening.

I love the freedom of movement that my phone gives me. That has definitely transformed my life.

Before I had a mobile phone I would try to get away from my desk as often as possible but it was definitely a lot more difficult.

Basically, I was stuck in an office all day. There was no escape.

Now I'm never behind a desk. I'm always out and about and on the move.

As the chairman of the company I think it's really important to get out and see your people as much as possible.

Sometimes of course it's nice to be out of reach. I do occasionally turn my phone off and it tends to stay off most of the time when I'm away on holidays. But generally it's pretty active.

Nowadays I don't go anywhere without my phone.

When we launch Virgin Galactic I guess I will even take it into space, although whether it works or not will be a good test for Virgin Mobile.
