LONDON, England (CNN) -- Swiss International Air Lines is to introduce a new business jet service between Zurich and Newark, just outside New York, in January 2005.
The new business class service will use jets that seat 56 passengers and will be operated by Geneva-based PrivatAir.
Swiss says it is stopping services between the cities using Airbus A330 aircraft, but will continue to use those larger airplanes for flights from Zurich and Geneva to New York's John F. Kennedy airport.
The service between Zurich and Newark will operate six times a week and will be tailored to business travelers' needs.
Swiss says there will be shorter boarding times and special in-flight services. There will also be four or more attendants on each flight and lie-flat seats with a 153-centimeter (five-foot) pitch.
According to Swiss International Air the new product is geared towards a specific market niche among the Swiss-U.S. business travel community.
The Swiss carrier is the second European airline after Lufthansa to introduce business premium traffic on transatlantic routes.
German flag carrier Lufthansa already offers similar business flights between Munich and Dusseldorf in Germany and Newark, New Jersey and Chicago in the U.S., using aircraft and crews of the same company, PrivatAir.
Air France, under its "Dedicate" brand, has also introduced long-haul services to destinations in Asia and Africa that are important oil industry centers using Airbus A319s.
