(CNN) -- A caller to Ohio authorities has claimed to be the person shooting at cars on the freeway that circles Columbus, officials said Friday.

Franklin County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Steve Martin told reporters that one person called the case's tip line and claimed to be the shooter.

"We're in the process of evaluating that and investigating that," he said.

Martin refused to give details about the call, and would not say when it came in.

Investigators have linked all 20 shootings that have taken place since May on or near the southwest corridor of Interstate 270, which circles Ohio's capital.

The string of shootings, the latest of which occurred January 22, have killed one person, and damaged several buildings and vehicles.

Gail Knisley, 62, was fatally wounded November 25 when a bullet pierced her car's windshield as she rode on that highway. No other injuries have been reported.

A $60,000 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of a suspect.
