Roadside bomb in Kashmir kills 3
SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir (CNN) -- A roadside bomb has ripped through a bus carrying Indian army forces in Kashmir, killing three and wounding 39 others -- seven critically -- police say.
The bombing happened in the apple-rich town of Sopore near Adipora in northern Kashmir Saturday afternoon about 37 miles (60 km) from Kashmir's summer capital of Srinagar.
Police said an improvised explosive device (IED) was planted in a scooter, parked along the roadside. The explosion caused massive damage to the soldiers' private bus.
The bus was part of an army convoy en route to Bandipore from Srinagar.
"Following the massive explosion, the bus caught fire and was destroyed. Security forces immediately rushed to the spot," said a police officer in Barramullah.
The bus driver and conductor were among the 39 injured, and their condition is reported to be critical.
The injured troopers have been taken to hospital. Sources said the critically injured have been airlifted to army base hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment.
No group has yet taken responsibility for the blast.
