U.S. troops stray into Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- More than 50 coalition soldiers, most of them U.S. troops, crossed the Afghanistan border into Pakistan earlier this week, Pakistani intelligence sources have said.
The Pakistani government has formally protested the action.
According to the sources, the incident occurred Monday around 7:30 p.m. (2: 30 p.m. GMT) in north Waziristan.
The soldiers were in Humvees, and witnesses also reported seeing helicopters in the air around the same time, the sources said.
They said the soldiers began searching shops and houses in the area, about about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) inside of Pakistan.
The Pakistani sources say the coalition troops were "messaged" that they were in Pakistani territory, and that the troops left soon afterwards.
No shots were ever fired, the sources said.
Appearing before the Pakistani Senate Wednesday, Foreign Minister Khursheed Kasuri said Pakistan has launched a strong protest against the violation.
He said the government has sent a written protest to Washington and asked for an inquiry to be conducted.
CNN has been unable to get reaction from the Pentagon about the report.
