'Short circuit' causes hotel blast
LAHORE, Pakistan -- An explosion that tore through the lobby of the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, injuring at least six people, was caused by a short circuit, Islamabad's chief of police told CNN.
Pakistani Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed confirmed to CNN that Thursday's blast was caused by a short circuit.
The blast occurred about 9:30 p.m. (12:30 p.m. ET).
Glass and other debris were blown out the front of the hotel and through the lobby, witnesses told Reuters.
"There is nothing to worry about. It is apparently a case of a short circuit. We are investigating," Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao told the news agency at the hotel.
"There is no evidence of any terrorist activity or any (bomb) blast," he said.
