26 die in Pakistani road accidents

LAHORE, Pakistan (CNN) -- Police say a wave of heavy fog in Pakistan's northern Punjab province is responsible for two deadly road accidents Saturday, killing 26 people, and is grounding airplanes at Lahore's airport.
The fog is not expected to lift for several days.
The driver of a passenger bus early Saturday lost control of his vehicle on a winding road as it turned a corner, plunging into a ravine, killing 18 passengers and wounding 30 others, police said.
The accident happened near Chak Ikka, Jhelum, about 75 miles (120 km) south of Islamabad.
Fog also caused a head-on collision between two vehicles, killing eight people and wounding another eight, near Layaha, about 240 miles (380 km) southwest of Lahore, police said.
The low-cloud cover has been blamed for dozens of traffic accidents and has forced Lahore's airport to remain mostly closed, stranding hundreds of travelers.
