Spain child porn: Dozens arrested

MADRID, Spain (CNN) -- Spanish police say they have arrested 90 people, including 21 juveniles, in the country's largest operation against child pornography distribution.
The suspects did not financially profit from the pornography that showed children engaged in sexual acts, including with adults, the National Police said Wednesday.
Instead, they received the pornographic material from abroad, stored it and distributed it among themselves on the Internet, the police said.
"I don't recommend that you view these sites. For me, it's macabre," Jose Luis Olivera, chief of a National Police unit involved in the arrests, told a news conference.
The arrests were carried out in 26 provinces, which constitute about half of the nation's provinces.
The suspects include schoolteachers, students, software engineers, civil servants, military personnel and domestic cleaning personnel, the police said.
Police have been on the trail of this distribution network since last June and determined it had "international connotations," Olivera said.
He added that some of the pornography seized arrived in Spain from nations in the southern extremes of South America.
Oliver said Interpol and Europol, the European police, were involved in the operation.
Police searched 87 homes, and seized numerous computers, more than 100 hard drives, thousands of compact discs and DVDs, which stored giga-quantities of thousands of photographs and videos showing child pornography.
Last December, police arrested 27 people across Spain on suspicion of distributing child pornography videos on the Internet that were used in chats and forums.
