GAZA CITY (CNN) -- Israeli forces early Wednesday shot and killed eight Palestinians, including at least three members of the Islamic Jihad, and wounded six others during a raid near Gaza City, Palestinian security and medical sources said.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed its soldiers hit several armed Palestinians who bombarded Israeli forces with mortars, an anti-tank missile and other explosive devices.
Israeli forces were operating at Netzarim junction to thwart missile and mortar attacks on the settlement of Netzarim, the IDF said. The Israeli soldiers fired on a group of five to 10 Palestinian gunmen as they approached the troops.
The IDF denied Palestinian claims that Israeli forces would not allow ambulances to evacuate the wounded.
