(CNN) -- Saudi security forces in Riyadh have killed one suspected militant and wounded another after trying to stop a car with stolen license plates, Saudi state television has reported.
According to the report, which quoted a government official, the two people in the car refused to stop and started firing at the security officials.
The Saudi officials managed to stop the car by shooting at its tires. One of the men was shot dead and the other was wounded, the report said.
No security officers were hurt.
Witnesses told CNN that the wounded man tried to hide in nearby villas, and some people reported seeing a third man flee into the same villas.
The area was sealed off and the villas were searched; only the wounded man was found, the witnesses said.
Earlier reports from the Interior Ministry said the area that was sealed off centered on a shopping mall in the Alrawda neighborhood.
Interior Ministry officials said the wounded suspect was taken to a hospital.
The identities of the suspects was not immediately clear.
