Bomb kills 2, hurts Iraqi official
BAGHDAD (CNN) -- A car bomb Sunday morning targeting the deputy governor of Iraq's Diyala province killed two of his bodyguards and wounded seven others -- including deputy governor Bassem al-Khadran -- according to officials from Iraq's Ministries of Interior and Health.
The other wounded include four of al-Khadran's bodyguards and two civilians. The extent of their injuries is not clear.
Interior ministry official Col. Adnan Abdul Rahman said the attack happened around 9 a.m. (1 a.m. ET) in al-Khalis, about 45 miles (70 km) northeast of Baghdad, in Diyala province.
Two weeks ago, al-Khadran survived another car bomb attack.
