Militant turns himself in to Saudis
Officials say suspect may have helped plan al-Khobar attack
(CNN) -- A militant believed by Saudi authorities to have been involved in the planning of the May attack in the oil city of al-Khobar has surrendered, a Saudi Ministry of Information spokesman said Thursday.
The spokesman said Abdallah bin Abdulaziz Ahmad al-Muqrin gave himself up within the past three days after his family urged him to surrender.
The spokesman said the suspect is related to -- but is not an immediate family member of -- Abdulaziz al-Muqrin, the leader of al Qaeda in Saudi Arabia, whom authorities killed this year after the kidnapping and execution of American Paul Johnson.
The recently captured militant came to the attention of Saudi authorities after the atttack in al-Khobar. They said he was identified as one who provided information and support for the four men who participated in the attack.
Twenty-two people died in al-Khobar in a hostage standoff that began May 29, ending with Saudi troops storming the residential compound where militants had taken more than 200 people hostage. (Full story)
