Airstrike kills 2 Palestinians
JERUSALEM (CNN) -- An Israeli airstrike has killed two Palestinian militants who were approaching a Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip, according to Israeli and Palestinian sources.
An Israeli military spokeswoman said the two Palestinians were armed and were carrying an object believed to be an explosive device when they were confronted by Israeli soldiers on the perimeter of Gush Katif on Saturday morning.
A Palestinian security source said the two were members of the Islamic Jihad.
The Palestinians had passed through the "no man's land" and a fence near an Israeli outpost when a gun battle with the IDF erupted about 7 a.m., the IDF spokeswoman said.
The fight ended about an hour later when the two Palestinians were killed by an Israeli airstrike, the IDF spokeswoman said.
An Israeli soldier was slightly wounded, she added.
Searchers after the battle found an explosive device and an anti-tank rocket and launcher near the Palestinian bodies, an Israeli military source said.
