Don't leave home without ...
![]() JVC's CD Case Speaker -- music on the move. (CNN) -- The right gadget can make all the difference when you're on the road. But with so many to choose from, how do you sift the latest fads from the ones that actually serve a purpose? CNN got together with New Scientist magazine's technology expert Barry Fox and came up with the top five devices that every business traveler should be carrying. 1. Timex Data WatchBarry Fox: It carries just about every bit of information that I need -- my telephone numbers, addresses, dates, passport numbers, phone numbers to call if I lose a credit card or its stolen. And the point is it's there on my wrist. 2. Sony PSPBF: This isn't just for kids who want to play games. There's plenty of business people who want to play games but may not admit that they do -- I don't personally. The thing about the PSP is that it has a terrific screen and I think everybody falls in love with that. It's big, it's bright and it's very clear. And that's what makes it really good for showing movies as well as playing games. You can connect it to a wireless Wi-Fi, you can even get onto the internet and if they only made it easier to enter text it would be a great e-mail tool. I think this is something that is going to be with us for a long time because they can build on it. It's clever. Pipistrel Phone File ProBF: This is a great little gadget that plugs into a computer. You put the SIM card from your phone into it and that then lets you edit or add phone numbers onto your SIM card. There are all kinds of ways to connect to a computer but every cell phone uses a different way to connect to a computer, different software. So, you forget all fancy leads, you forget all the fancy software and just need this one little dongle. I think this is a must. 4. USB Memory SticksBF: Every computer has got a USB socket now. These little memory cards hold 64 megabytes, so you are talking the capacity of around 50 floppy disks. I've got another one I carry around my neck. Whenever I am working away from home, I save my data on one of these. 5. JVC CD Case SpeakerBF: This is a little bit of silliness, a little bit of indulgence. It's a hard box, so you can put stuff like a CD player in there, or your little iPod or your PSP. You can zip it up and it's strong so no matter how hard it gets kicked at the airport it's not going to break. Then when you get to your hotel room you can relax and listen to your music.
