10-11PM
CSI: NY (CBS) It's the difference between siblings and clones. While the "Law & Order" family is clearly from the same gene pool, the "CSIs" are just repeating strands of DNA differentiated by geography and mood lighting.
Not that "CSI: NY" is weak -- the plots work (this week a Red Sox fan never makes it out of Yankees territory), and the cast is first-rate. But we need to get into these characters if we're ever to love this show.
A nice start: When Mac (Gary Sinise) gets personally involved in the case of a man accused of murder (Michael Clarke Duncan), so do we. No, finding the love isn't standard for crime dramas, but it could be the mutation this species needs to evolve.
EW Grade: B
Best of the rest
8-9:01PM
LOST (ABC, TV-14) Jack suspects foul play in Michael's illness. Wow, what with keeping his clothes tidy, his hair shorn and avoiding the sun's rays, he's had time to notice?
8-10PM
THE KING, PART 2: ELVIS (CBS) Good news for Elvis fans: This stops at '68. Sucks for the rest of us.
9-10PM
BREAKING THE DA VINCI CODE (Pax, TV-PG) ... And spankin' Dan Brown's butt red.
9-10PM
SEASON FINALE: JACK & BOBBY (WB) The finale includes appearances by Gore Vidal and Norman Lear, and an off-camera Tim Robbins is the voice of the grown-up President McCallister. But the big one plays Jack and Bobby's estranged father: Lou Diamond Phillips. Hmmm, "La Bamba" was '87, so a kid would be 17, 18 now -- Omigod! Lou Diamond Phillips could be the daddy!
10-10:59PM
LAW & ORDER (NBC, TV-14) An "ex-racist" claims he's reformed. Yeah, God, prison and Halle Berry will do that.
