Monty run cannot stop Wiratchant
JAKARTA, Indonesia -- Colin Montgomerie set a European Tour record for successive birdies and missed a makeable putt to break 60, but it was Thailand's Thaworn Wiratchant who won a low-scoring Indonesian Open.
Ryder Cup hero Montgomerie reeled off nine birdies in a row for a 60 and joint fourth with Filipino Frankie Minoza.
Wiratchant carded a final round 63 to finish on 25-under-par 255.
Runner-up Raphael Jacquelin had five birdies for 65 in the fourth round for a 260 aggregate, just one stroke ahead of Australia's Adam Fraser (62) who was third with a total of 19-under-par 261.
Fraser also produced the tournament's second hole-in-one at the par-three 17th hole. The first ace came in the second round by Japan's Satoshi Tomiyama at the eighth hole. Tomiyama finished at 31st place totally 10-under-par 270.
Scotland's Montgomerie, 41, needed to pull off a win to qualify for the next month's U.S. Masters, the year's first Major, scored a four-under-par 66 in the delayed third round with an eagle three on the par five ninth hole.
All 79 players had to complete the weather-delayed third round early Sunday before finishing the last round at the par-70 Cengkareng Golf Club.
More than 150 players took part, the first international event in Indonesian since 1997, which was jointly sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours.
