GENEVA, Switzerland -- Italy's Alessandro Petacchi won the second stage of the Tour de Romandie to seize the overall lead of the six-day Swiss race.
As in Wednesday's stage, Petacchi had a perfect lead out from his Fassa Bortolo team - and was unbeatable in the dash to the line at the end of the 172km stage around Fleurier.
Italians Daniele Colli of the Liquigas team and Mirco Lorenzetto of Domina Vacanze finished second and third.
Giovanni Lombardi completed an Italian sweep of the top four, followed by Spain's Josu Silloniz in fifth.
The top 10 all finished with the same time as Petacchi.
Petacchi now leads Spain's Oscar Pereiro of the Phonak team by eight seconds in the overall classification.
"My team were great yet again," said Petacchi, who was ill in the days before the start of the race.
"I knew there were only two stages that would finish in sprints and so it's great to win them both and give my confidence a boost for the Giro d'Italia," he said.
Petacchi won a record nine stages at last year's Giro, although he is setting his sights lower this year.
"It'll be impossible to beat my record of nine wins because there are only five or six stages that will finish in sprints, but I want to win at least two if not more," he said.
Friday's third stage is over 146.5km from the headquarters of the UCI in Aigle to the Anzere ski resort at an altitude of 1526 meters.
