Schumacher will be taking his place in the Toyota in next week's French GP

LONDON, England -- Ralf Schumacher will race at the French Grand Prix on July 3 despite not testing for Toyota this week after his heavy crash at Indianapolis.

"Ralf has no lasting ill effects after his accident at Indianapolis last Friday but we always make driver safety the priority," said chief test engineer Gerd Pfeiffer.

"The medical staff decided that the sensible thing to do was maximise Ralf's recovery time before Magny-Cours, where he will return alongside Jarno Trulli."

Trulli took pole position for last Sunday's U.S. Grand Prix but did not race either after the seven Michelin-equipped teams withdrew before the start because the French manufacturer could not guarantee the safety of its tyres.

Schumacher's accident in Friday's practice, in which the German hit the wall at almost the same place as his big crash last year, was caused by sudden tyre failure.
