England agree one-day Karachi date

KARACHI, Pakistan (Reuters) -- England cricket chiefs have agreed to play a one-day international in Karachi after earlier rejecting the southern Pakistan port city as a test venue.

A Pakistan Board official said on Thursday the itinerary for England's tour starting on October 25 is finalised with one match in Karachi, on December 15.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) officials had rejected a proposal to play a test in the volatile city because of security concerns.

They acted on the advice of two security experts they sent to Pakistan and on feedback from their High Commission in Islamabad.

"Both boards have wrapped up the tour programme and England will play tests at Multan, Faisalabad and Lahore and five one-day internationals -- at Karachi and two each at Lahore and Rawalpindi," the official confirmed.

New Zealand cut short a tour of Pakistan in 2002 after a bomb blast outside their hotel in Karachi.

ECB director of cricket operations John Carr said in a statement on Thursday: "ECB have agreed to the itinerary proposed by the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board).

"As is the case for all England Tours, this agreement is subject to on-going advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and our own security advisers that all venues are acceptably safe to visit.

"The safety and security of the tour party, traveling media and supporters is a top priority on any England Tour and the tour to Pakistan is no exception."

England's tour dates:

Oct 26: Arrive Pakistan

Oct 31- Nov 2: Tour match (Rawalpindi)

Nov 6-8: Tour match (Bagh-e-Jinnah, Lahore)

Nov 12-16: 1st test (Multan)

Nov 20-24: 2nd test (Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad)

Nov 29-Dec 3: 3rd test (Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore)

Dec 7: One-day warm-up (Bagh-e-Jinnah, Lahore)

Dec 10: 1st ODI (Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore)

Dec 12: 2nd ODI (Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore)

Dec 15: 3rd ODI (National Stadium, Karachi)

Dec 19: 4th ODI (Rawalpindi)

Dec 21: 5th ODI (Rawalpindi)

Dec 22: Return home
