More gloom for Ferrari in Hungary

BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Ferrari's fortunes showed no signs of improving as both Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello failed to complete Friday's second practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix

World champion Schumacher won the race last year - but it was a different story as track temperatures reached 50 degrees Celsius.

The German's season-long troubles continued when he was absent from virtually all of the session and was forced to miss out on vital pre-race preparation.

He was fifth fastest in the morning session but his Ferrari ground to a halt less than 10 minutes into the second hour and was craned away and taken back to the pits on a truck.

And it was double disaster for Ferrari as Barrichello crashed into the barriers in the closing stages of the session after his rear wheels appeared to lock.

Brazilian Barrichello was lying seventh, despite his late crash, behind Toyota's test driver Ricardo Zonta, who posted the quickest time of 1:20.409 late in the session.

Behind Zonta came McLaren test driver Alexander Wurz in 0.110 seconds, with Raikkonen, the fastest race driver who is 36 points behind championship leader Fernando Alonso, in third in his McLaren with a time of 1:21.281.

Italian Jarno Trulli lies fourth, German team-mate Ralf Schumacher completed Toyota's promising show in fifth with Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya, who has finished on the podium in the last two races, sixth in the third McLaren.

Spaniard Alonso was eighth fastest for Renault, Briton Jenson Button ninth for BAR-Honda and Austrian Christian Klien completing the top 10 in his Red Bull.

Chanoch Nissany become the first Israeli driver to take part in a Grand Prix meeting when he took to the track with Minardi in the morning, but he failed to get out of the garage in the afternoon.

The Budapest resident, whose outing also made him the first Grand Prix driver over the age of 40 since Nigel Mansell ended his career with McLaren 10 years ago, was given his chance mainly for promotional reasons.

He only obtained the super licence he needed to drive this week, after completing limited mileage and he managed just eight laps in the first session before spinning off into the gravel at turn four.
