Agassi and Rusedski make the semis
MONTREAL, Canada -- Andre Agassi and Greg Rusedski set up a semifinal meeting at the Montreal Masters, both recording 6-3 6-4 quarterfinal triumphs. Fourth seed Agassi, a three-time champion in Canada, concluded a rain-interrupted match against Gaston Gaudio while Montreal native Rusedski, who changed to a British passport in 1995, was untroubled by Slovak Dominik Hrbaty. The other semifinal was between top seed Rafael Nadal and Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu. Nadal, at 19 the reigning Roland Garros winner, said he hoped for a final against Agassi, the 35-year-old icon who won the first of his 60 career titles when the Spaniard was just one year old. Agassi, who lifted the trophy in Los Angeles in July, stretched his current win streak to nine matches as he lost a break in the second set against Gaudio, but recovered in the ninth game. The American served out victory with an ace. The 40th-ranked Rusedski reached his first semi at the elite Masters level since 1999 in Stuttgart. A decade after switching allegiance, the former Canadian seems to have renewed his relationship with the Montreal crowd. "It's great to be in the semis here in Montreal. This is where I grew up, this is where I was born. It's great to be out here and great to win and have such great support. "It's been a great week for me - may it continue. I've finally had a run where I've had some health for a year and a half. I've had a pretty tough last three years." He has overcome injuries and a positive dope test which was later discredited after a legal battle.
