Barry called into S Africa line-up
YOUR E-MAIL ALERTSSYDNEY, Australia -- Center De Wet Barry has replaced suspended winger Breyton Paulse in the South Africa team to play New Zealand in their crucial Tri-nations clash in Dunedin on Saturday. Paulse was banned for three weeks after being found guilty of kicking Australia prop Al Baxter in South Africa's 22-19 win in Perth last weekend. Springboks coach Jake White would probably have retained the same team that beat the Australians but has been forced to reshuffle the backline. Barry, who was not even included in the 22-man squad last week, has been promoted to start at inside center while Jean de Villiers, who started at inside center against Australia, has been moved from the midfield to Paulse's vacant wing. Eddie Andrews is named as the back-up prop after Gurthro Steenkamp was sent home when he broke his hand playing against the Wallabies. White has also added utility back Marius Joubert to his bench at the expense of Wayne Julius. "What we lost with Breyton in terms of experience as he was the most senior back, we had to replace with De Wet Barry," said White. "We will need that experience in a game like this. Maybe De Wet is less creative but from second, third and fourth phase the number on your back is irrelevant. There is nothing to stop a wing taking the ball at flyhalf or at second receiver. "The All Blacks are using a flyhalf (Leon MacDonald) who has only played fullback and centre for them. That's the way it's going now, once the broken play starts the number on your back doesn't matter too much." Saturday's match is looming as the championship decider. South Africa, unbeaten after three matches, will retain the title they won last season if they beat the All Blacks. However, New Zealand can snatch the title if they win this weekend then beat Australia in the final match a week later. South Africa: 15-Percy Montgomery; 14-Jean de Villiers, 13-Jaque Fourie, 12-De Wet Barry, 11-Bryan Habana; 10-Andre Pretorious, 9-Ricky Januarie; 8-Joe van Niekerk, 7-Juan Smith, 6-Schalk Burger, 5-Victor Matfield, 4-Bakkies Botha; 3-CJ van der Linde, 2-John Smit (captain), 1-Os du Randt. Replacements: 16-Hanyani Shimage, 17-Eddie Andrews, 18-Albert van den Berg, 19-Jacques Cronje, 20-Fourie du Preez, 21-Jaco van der Westhuyzen, 22-Marius Joubert.
