YAOUNDE, Cameroon -- Former Swiss and Portuguese national coach Artur Jorge has been named as the new manager of the Cameroon national side.

Sports minister Philippe Mbarga Mboua also announced another Portuguese coach, Raoul Agace, and Jules Fridiric Nyonga of Cameroon would be Jorge's deputies.

Jorge replaces Winfried Schaefer, Cameroon's long-time German coach who was sacked in November after a run of poor results in qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup.

The Indomitable Lions are currently struggling in third place in the African Zone Group 3 behind Ivory Coast and Libya following two wins, two defeats and one loss.

The 59-year-old Jorge was coach at CSKA Moscow until last July and becomes Cameroon's 20th national team coach.

He also had spells in charge of Porto and Paris St Germain and has also coached in Spain, the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia.

Schaefer's final match in charge was the 3-0 friendly defeat against World Cup hosts Germany.
