Van Gaal to take charge at Alkmaar

Louis van Gaal
Van Gaal: "The ambition of the club fits in with my own ambition."

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- Louis van Gaal will return to club management at the start of next season with current Dutch league leaders AZ Alkmaar.

The former Barcelona and Dutch national coach, who quit as technical director at Ajax last October, started his coaching career with Alkmaar in 1986 before moving on to Ajax.

He will succeed Co Adriaanse who said last week he would leave Alkmaar when his contract ends at the end of the season.

"My decision to work for AZ is based on three criteria," said Van Gaal.

"They have a stable organization, where I believe that I can do my work in the right way and the quality of the squad shows lots of opportunities. The ambition of the club fits in with my own ambition."
