ATHENS, Greece -- Panathinaikos' Greek international defender Sotiris Kirgiakos looks set to sign for Scottish giants Rangers according to reports on Monday.
The 25-year-old is poised to finalize a two-and-a-half year contract for a fee of euros 2.7million and earn between euros700,000 to 800,000 a year.
A spokesman for Panathinaikos confirmed the player has had contacts with Rangers as well as English Premiership rivals Portsmouth and Southampton.
Kirgiakos has played nine times for the Greek national team but missed out on the Euro 2004 finals, won by his nation, because of an injury.
He scored two goals in Panathinaikos' 5-1 win on Sunday against OFI Crete.
Panathinaikos, the defending Greek champions, currently lead the league standings mid-way through the season.
