Suazo helps Cagliari take control
Honduras striker David Suazo set up one goal and scored another as Cagliari beat Sampdoria 2-0 in an Italian Cup first-leg quarterfinal on Thursday.
Emanuele Bianchi, fed by Suazo, scored the opening goal after four minutes with a soft diagonal shot as goalkeeper Luigi Turci skidded on the hard ground and could not dive.
Suazo made it 2-0 when he controlled the ball with his chest and fired home a spectacular volley in the 24th minute.
Sampdoria never threatened Cagliari's net without injured strikers Simone Inzaghi and Francesco Flachi.
A 72nd minute goal by Obfemi Martins gave Inter Milan a 1-0 advantage over Atalanta, who shocked Serie A pacesetters Juventus in the previous round.
Second-leg matches are scheduled for March 16-17.
