ROME, Italy -- Juventus have one hand on the Serie A title after a 2-1 victory at Atalanta on Sunday while closest rivals and reigning champions AC Milan lost 1-0 to Bologna in the San Siro.

It was Milan's second defeat in a row after a shock loss at Livorno and leaves them eight points behind Juventus.

Their former player Tomas Locatelli scored Bologna's winner, while Milan's star striker Andriy Shevchenko also limped off injured.

Unbeaten Inter Milan won the late match as two Christian Vieri goals gave them a 2-0 win at Palermo to move up to third on 35 points.

AS Roma rose to fourth on 33 points as they fought back from two goals down to overcome Messina 3-2 at the Olympic Stadium.

Roma's rivals for a Champions League berth, Sampdoria, were held 1-1 by relegation-battlers Siena, while Dino Zoff's Serie A debut as Fiorentina coach ended in a 1-0 defeat by Cagliari.

Ruben Olivera's first-half strike and an Alessandro Del Piero penalty secured a 2-1 victory for Juventus at bottom club Atalanta.

A moment of madness from Alex Calderoni gifted Juve the opening goal in the 23rd minute in Bergamo.

The Atalanta keeper unnecessarily rushed to the edge of his penalty box to try and intercept Emerson's long through-ball, but Olivera got there first and clipped the ball into an unguarded net.

Del Piero added a second from the spot 10 minutes fom time when Mauro Camoranesi was brought down in the box before Lilian Thuram put through his own net in stoppage time to give the home side a late consolation goal.

Milan's disappointment of losing further ground to their championship rivals was compounded by an injury to Ukranian striker Shevchenko, who limped off in the 38th minute with an injury to his right ankle.

The 2004 European Footballer of the Year, who has scored 13 league goals this season, came off worst after a challenge from Alessandro Gamberini.

Milan were denied what looked like a perfectly good goal in the 14th minute at the San Siro.

French midfielder Vikash Dhorasoo slammed a right-footed volley into the top corner from the edge of the penalty box, but was judged by referee Massimo De Santis to have barged Brazilian defender Juarez out of the way before unleashing his stunning strike.

Bologna added insult to Milan's injury by taking the lead in the 27th minute. Theo Zagorakis, captain of the Greek team that won Euro 2004, created space for Locatelli with a sublime back-heel and the former AC Milan midfielder drilled a low drive past Nelson Dida.
