MILAN, Italy -- Fiorentina have signed Bulgarian striker Valeri Bojinov from Italian Serie A rivals Lecce for a reported fee of 13 million euros ($16.95m).
The Florence club said that Chilean midfielder Jaime Andres Valdes had moved to Lecce as part of the deal.
If confirmed the fee would be the biggest of the Serie A season in cash terms and the biggest so far in the European transfer window which closes at midnight CET on Monday.
Bojinov, who will be 19 next month, has scored 11 goals in 20 Serie A outings this season, with his outstanding form attracting interest from across Europe.
The Bulgarian international becomes Fiorentina coach Dino Zoff's first major signing since he took charge last week at the Florence club who stand 16th in the 20-team Serie A.
Bojinov, likened in style and ability to English striker Wayne Rooney, will partner Italy striker Fabrizio Miccoli in the Fiorentina attack.
Zoff's team have also brought in Italy under-21 midfielder Marco Donadel on loan from AC Milan and recently signed young forward Giampaolo Pazzini from Atalanta.
Leko leaves
Croatia midfielder Ivan Leko has quit Spanish side Malaga and returned to his hometown club Hajduk Split, state television reported on Monday.
The 26-year-old, who joined Malaga in 2001 but has recently been unhappy there, will captain a Hajduk side revamped since their Premier League title success last year, state TV said.
The left-footed Leko made his debut for Croatia last August in their 1-0 friendly win over Israel.
Hajduk have lifted five league titles since Croatia gained independence in 1991 and are hot favorites again this season.
The league resumes on February 26 after the winter break with Hajduk two points clear of Rijeka at the top.
European champions Porto have agreed to loan Brazilian winger Maciel Barbosa da Cunha to Brazil's Atletico Paranaense until the end of the season, the club said in a statement.
The 26-year-old, who had been linked to French side Rennes, moved to Portugal in 2002 to join Uniao Leiria and moved to Porto the following year.
He will be coached at Paranaense by Portugal's Casemiro Mior, who joined the Brazilian side earlier this month from Portuguese side Nacional Madeira.
Benfica have signed Serbia and Montenegro striker Andrija Delibasic on loan from Spain's Real Mallorca until the end of the season
Under the terms of the deal, the Portuguese first division club will have the right in June to acquire the 23-year-old player, who joined Mallorca last season on a five-year deal.
"This is a great club, I am very happy to be here," said Delibasic, who has played for his country's under-21 team.
